Subash

This is Subash. He is 8 years old and he lives in Nepal. He has severe hemophilia A. Subash is not progressing in school. He is in the 1st grade but his absences have made it difficult for him to stay in school. When he was in school he enjoyed drawing and other artistic activities. Subash has an older brother, who is 20 years old, and an older sister who is 16 years old. Both are students. His father is a carpenter and his mother is a housewife. His 80-year-old grandmother also lives with them. His family owns their house. They live in a village. Their home has electricity and running water. They cook over a gas burner. They do not have a refrigerator. In recent months Subash has had major bleeds in his thigh, knee and ankle. He has had to travel 12 kilometers, by public transportation, to the nearest hospital for treatment.
