Sandeep
Hello! Sandeep is 11 years old and in the 6th grade. He is a dedicated student and doing very well at school. Mathematics is his favorite subject. His school is only .5km from his home. If he is unable to walk to school because of bleeds, his mother helps him get there. He likes to spend his free time playing games with his younger sister and watching television. He dreams of becoming a doctor one day! He has been diagnosed with severe hemophilia A. Recently, he has suffered bleeds in his elbow, ankles, and knees. His left knee and right elbow bleed repeatedly. Most of the time, he receives treatment at the Siddhartha Medical College and Hospital in Vijayawada. Occasionally, they go to the Guntur Government General Hospital for treatment. The closest hospital is 10 km from his home and it takes approximately 30 minutes to travel there by auto or bus. Thankfully, he has been receiving physiotherapy to help maintain mobility in his joints. No additional health concerns have been identified at this time. Sandeep lives with his mother, Jhansi Rani, who is only 24 years old and his younger sister, Sanjana, age seven. His father, Kumar, age 29, has abandoned the family and does not support them. His mother works at a petrol bunk which is a gas station. She earns approximately $91 per month to support the family. His family speaks the regional language, Telugu. They are also able to read, write and speak a little English. The family rents a two-room house in the city of Vaddeswaram, India for $15 per month. Their home is made of tin and has electricity. Thry do not have running water, indoor plumbing, or a refrigerator. Food is cooked inside the home over a gas burner. Overall, their home is kept neat and clean.
