Mitch
Meet Mitch. Mitch was the first patient identified with hemophilia in the northern part of Haiti at the age of 8. See his photo below. He used to have to be carried around because he was unable to walk. He is now 21 and a student. Mitch has moderate hemophilia A. He has severe damage to his knee due to chronic, untreated bleeds. He is unable to stand up straight but able to walk now. The room Mitch rents. Raised by his grandmother, he is currently in school at a local commuter school. Because it was too difficult to take the bus to school, he rents a room nearby so he can attend classes. He hopes to start a small business to support himself. Mitch in 2015 with his trusty CD player. Mitch is proficient in English (which he learned by listening to CD's). He can read, write and speak it fluently. Mitch at the age of 8 when he received a wheelchair to help him move around. Prior to receiving a wheelchair he was usually carried around because he couldn't walk.
