Aliyan
Aliyan is almost four years old. He is too young to attend school. Aliyan has von Willebrand Disease Type III. Other than minor bleeding issues that are common with von Willebrand disease, Aliyan has not had any major bleeds that required hospitalization. The nearest hospital to the family is approximately 20 kilometers from their home and it takes 30 minutes to travel there by motor bike. Aliyan lives with his father, Uddin; his mother Shumaila; his brother Usman, age eight and sister, Momina, age six. All three children have a bleeding disorder. Uddin is a salesperson and Shumaila is a homemaker caring for the children and the home. The familys average monthly income is a approximately $120. The cost to care for three children with a bleeding disorder is a great burden on this poor family. The family speaks their native language, Urdu/Punjabi.
